FUEL AND ENERGY TECHNOLOGIES FOR THE FUTURE
Hydroplus’s core business is based on unique, patented technologies, processes and systems for hydrogen production through catalytic steam reforming of various hydrocarbons, such as biogas, natural gas, LPG, and ethanol. In many markets, there is a good supply of biogas and biogas is an excellent raw material that gives carbon dioxide-neutral hydrogen production without any other harmful emissions. The ability to integrate the in-house developed reformer with fuel cells and other sub-systems enables Hydroplus to offer complete, turn-key products, systems, and plants, in different sizes for various applications.
REFORMERS AND ENERGY SYSTEM OF TWO BASIC DESIGNS
The reformer is offered in two different configurations, adapted for different types of fuel cells and market segments, but based on the same basic principle of catalytic, flame-less steam reforming:
Compact plate design for mass-produced consumer products, primarily for Combined Heat and Power (CHP) systems in the power range of 1-5 kW electrical power and secondly for power units and battery chargers, known as Auxiliary Power Units (APU). In this embodiment, the reformer works under low pressure and can be integrated with fuel cells powered by the generated reformate, i.e. hydrogen where all CO is removed but CO2 is allowed to pass through both the reformer and the fuel cell.
Tubular design for hydrogen processors with capacity 10 – 500 Nm3/h, where the application requirements are very high for the purity of the hydrogen. The reformer operates under 8 – 10 bar pressure, which enables efficient purification up to 99.999%, in a so-called PSA (Pressure Swing Adsorption). With this combination of technologies, hydrogen of the required quality can be offered to industrial processes, CHP systems and as fuel for fuel cell vehicles (passenger cars, buses, trucks, forklifts, ships, trains, etc.) and for hydrogen-powered combustion engines.

1-Hydrogen refueling stations
Hydroplus can offer complete 350 and 700 bar hydrogen refueling stations (HRS)in the 50, 100 and 300 Nm3 / h size (106, 212 and 640 kg/day or 38, 76 and 230 tons/year) with reformers, compressors, high pressure storage, coolers and dispensers.
For all major subsystems, in addition to the reformer, the company cooperates with the best and world-leading companies in each product area.
our reformers are compact and are built-in modules with container dimensions, allowing for rational industrial manufacturing and safe quality control.

2-Reformer for industrial hydrogen
Hydroplus’s Reformer Technology is scalable and can both be made as small systems and expanded to very large facilities. Such may be of interest to industries with a high hydrogen demand and where the raw material in the form of methane or other hydrocarbon is available locally at low cost. Examples of industrial hydrogen use are:
- Steel industry, for example as a protective gas for heat treatment of stainless steel
- Nuclear power stations and other large power plants, for the cooling of the generators
- Manufacturing of biodiesel and other fuels, including methane (Power to gas)
- Manufacture of food, for example, margarine (so-called hydration)
- Pharmaceutical industry, for hydration and various chemical processes
- Gas welding of precious metals, such as gold and silver, where absolute purity is required
- As well as many other applications in the chemical industry
For many of these industrial hydrogen needs, our technology is very cost-effective, compared to today’s common method of hydrogen production large-scale from natural gas, and distributed over long distances, at high costs.
Hydroplus will provide market-driven solutions with hydrogen generators, gas purification, compression, and storage of hydrogen, in tailor-made solutions for each customer’s needs.
